2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | |||||
3 | Representatives are pleased to honor Colonel Damon T. Arnold | |||||
4 | for his service to our nation and for his ongoing commitment to | |||||
5 | improving the health of the people of the United States; and
| |||||
6 | WHEREAS, Colonel Damon Arnold obtained his undergraduate | |||||
7 | degree from Howard University in Washington, D.C. and his M.D. | |||||
8 | and M.P.H. Degrees from the University of Illinois in Chicago; | |||||
9 | he completed his residency in internal medicine at Cook County | |||||
10 | Hospital, followed by a residency in occupational medicine; he | |||||
11 | also completed formal training in holistic medicine for | |||||
12 | therapeutic massage therapy and acupuncture; and
| |||||
13 | WHEREAS, Colonel Damon Arnold serves as the Director of the | |||||
14 | Public Health Graduate Program at Chicago State University; he | |||||
15 | also serves as an adjunct professor at the University of | |||||
16 | Illinois College of Medicine and the School of Public Health; | |||||
17 | and
| |||||
18 | WHEREAS, Colonel Damon Arnold was appointed as the 16th | |||||
19 | Director of the Illinois Department of Public Health on October | |||||
20 | 1, 2007; during his tenure as Director, he brought millions of | |||||
21 | dollars to the State of Illinois and was very active on the | |||||
22 | local, state, and federal levels; and

1 | WHEREAS, For 26 years, Colonel Damon Arnold served in the | ||||||
2 | Army National Guard as the Commander of the Joint Medical | ||||||
3 | Command and State Surgeon General for 26 years; he completed 17 | ||||||
4 | overseas missions in locations such as Africa, Central America, | ||||||
5 | South America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia; he functioned | ||||||
6 | as a mechanized infantry Combat Medic as well as a qualified | ||||||
7 | Flight Surgeon on over 80 field operations in Iraq and Kuwait; | ||||||
8 | and | ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Colonel Damon Arnold was awarded the Military | ||||||
10 | Legion of Merit Medal from President Barack Obama for his | ||||||
11 | achievements; he was also awarded 3 Army Commendation Medals | ||||||
12 | for his war-time deployments to Iraq and Kuwait, where he | ||||||
13 | served as the Officer in Charge of battlefield medical | ||||||
14 | operations; he was also the recipient of 2 National Defense | ||||||
15 | Service Medals and numerous battlefield awards; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Colonel Damon Arnold serves as a member of the | ||||||
17 | Harvard University L.A.M.P.S. Committee, the Institute of | ||||||
18 | Medicine in Washington, D.C., the Association of State and | ||||||
19 | Territorial Health Officials, and many federal-based | ||||||
20 | organizations; he has published many articles and contributed | ||||||
21 | to numerous publications over the years; therefore, be it
| ||||||
22 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |

1 | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
2 | we honor Colonel Damon T. Arnold for his service to our nation | ||||||
3 | and for his ongoing commitment to improving the health of the | ||||||
4 | people of the United States and wish him continued success and | ||||||
5 | happiness in the future; and be it further
| ||||||
6 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
7 | presented to Colonel Damon Arnold as a symbol of our esteem and | ||||||
8 | respect. |
