Abomination of Desolation (scriptures compared)
Luke specifically helps us understand that the "desolation" that Jesus spoke of, in the scriptures shown below, was for the LAST DAYS. How do we know that? Because Jesus tells us that Jerusalem (the city AND the temple-site) would be left without "one stone upon another." That has not happened yet! Some "scholars" say that Luke is wrong. I say that Luke's writings are critical for us to know the true definition of the "Abomination of Desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet".... let him that readeth [that means us!] understand!
Here, we want to bring the important scriptures into view, side-by-side. We start with the records of when Jesus was looking down upon and weeping over Jerusalem. Watch how Luke interprets the prophecies of Jesus when he speaks of the stones of "the city" of Jerusalem which, of course, include the entire temple site:
Mat 23:37-39: O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that
killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often
would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her
chickens under her wings, and ye would not! Behold, your house is left
unto you desolate. For I say unto you, Ye shall not see Me henceforth,
till ye shall say, Blessed is He that cometh in the name of the Lord.
Luk 13:34-35 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which killest
the prophets, and stonest them that are sent unto thee; how often would I have
gathered thy children together, as a hen doth gather her brood under her wings,
and ye would not! Behold, your house is left unto you desolate:
and verily I say unto you, Ye shall not see Me, until the time come when ye
shall say, Blessed is He that cometh in the name of the Lord.
Luk 19:37-44: And when He was come nigh,
even now at the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the
disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty
works that they had seen; Saying, Blessed be the King that cometh in the name of
the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest... And when He was come
near, He beheld the city, and wept over it, Saying, If thou hadst known,
even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace!
but now they are hid from thine eyes. For the days shall come upon
thee, that thine enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and compass
thee round, and keep thee in on every side, And shall lay thee even with the
ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee
one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy
visitation.
It starts: "And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and His disciples came to Him for to shew Him the buildings of the temple. And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down..." (after reading through verse 14 carry on...)
