Another Fort Hood shooting: Military cops kill U.S. soldier during gunfight

A U.S. soldier was killed Friday after he opened fire on members of the Military Police at the Fort Hood Army base in the state of Texas, according to a source.
The MPs at Fort Hood while on routine patrol discovered a suspicious vehicle parked near the main gate of the base in the early morning, according to the law enforcement source.

While the MPs approached the automobile, a soldier sitting in the vehicle opened fire on the MPs who immediately returned fire on the vehicle and its shooter, the source told the Law Enforcement Examiner.

Officials from the U.S. Army stated that, although the MPs administered life-saving measures, the soldier died before emergency medical personnel arrived. None of the MPs were hurt during the brief gun battle.
While an investigation into the shooting is already under way, the 30-year-old soldier's name and pedigree have not yet been was released. It was noted that the departed had been assigned to the 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood, the source said.
It's not known if the incident is terrorist-related.
On Nov. 5, 2009, 12 soldiers and one civilian were killed and more than two dozen others were wounded when a gunman walked into the Soldier Readiness Processing Center at Fort Hood and opened fire. In that case, the shooter was almost immediately identified as Army Maj. Nidal Hasan, a military psychiatrist assigned to Fort Hood.
It was later discovered that Hasan was a radical Islamist who viewed his fellow soldiers as the enemy. He is currently facing a military court martial at the Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, military base and terrorist detention center.
