U.S. Department of the Treasury's Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence David Cohen Visits Russia
Moscow – The U.S. Department of the Treasury's Under Secretary for
Terrorism and Financial Intelligence David Cohen is visiting Russia to
consult with officials across the Russian government.
In a series of meetings, Under Secretary Cohen briefed his
counterparts on U.S. efforts to enforce U.S. and UN sanctions on Iran as
part of international efforts to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear
weapon. The Under Secretary also discussed the need for increasing
pressure on the Syrian regime, especially in the wake of its recent
escalation of violent repression of the Syrian people. He called once
more on the Russian government to support international efforts to
secure a peaceful transition of power in Syria.
Under Secretary Cohen also briefed Russian officials on U.S. efforts
to combat global threats posed by transnational organized crime and he
stressed that the U.S. remains committed to continuing its close
coordination with the Russia on this issue.
