CAIR-DFW: Muslims to Hold Voter Registration Drive at Texas Stadium

MUSLIMS TO HOLD VOTER REGISTRATION DRIVE AT TEXAS STADIUM
(Dallas, TX, 5/30/02) Muslims in the Dallas/Fort Worth area
are holding a voter registration drive on Sunday, June 9th at
Texas Stadium in Irving, TX from 12 noon to 6 pm. The "Muslim
Ballot Box BBQ" is a joint effort by local chapters of the
American Muslim Alliance, the American Muslim Council, and the
Council on American-Islamic Relations, along with many other
area organizations, to provide an opportunity for Muslims and
other interested Americans to meet candidates running for various
offices in the upcoming November election. Other activities
planned for the day include carnival games, food, and exhibition
booths.
In a statement by Dr. Inayat Lalani, chairman of the local
chapter of the American Muslim Council, "In addition to voter
registration, the goal of this event is to mobilize the American
Muslim community at the grassroots level to have a voice in the
political process. The event will also give candidates
information and access to the large number of Muslim voters
living in their respective voting districts."
Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 6 to 12, and
free for children under 6. A family package is also available
for $40. Ticket prices include food (halal) and parking.
